  • Durban - Kaizer Chiefs' 1-0 victory over Golden Arrows at Chatsworth on Wednesday afternoon has bolstered Amakhosi's top eight aspirations reports the SuperSport website

Former Golden Arrows striker Mabhuthi Khenyeza scored the only goal of the game.

Shots were traded early on in the game, as Richard Henyekane had his effort blocked in the sixth minute, while Gerald Sibeko shot over the bar for Chiefs in the eighth minute.

Kagiso Dikgacoi had the chance to open proceedings when the home side were awarded a free kick in the 18th minute, but Chiefs keeper Itumeleng Khune was on hand to make the save.

Two minutes later Amakhosi went ahead when Siphiwe Tshabalala picked Mabhuthi Khenyeza out with a free kick and the Chiefs striker made no mistake in heading home the opening goal against his former team.

A Joseph Musonda free kick in the 22nd minute located Siyabonga Sangweni, whose header was off target.

The remainder of the half saw most of the chances falling to the Soweto side - Khenyeza was off target with two efforts and Arthur Zwane's weak shot was saved by Brendan Wardle, while for Abafana Bes'thende, Philani Shange failed to get enough on his shot from inside the box to trouble Khune.

    Hard man to beat

The Durban side pushed hard for an equaliser in the second half, but as many teams have found this season, Amakhosi shot-stopper Khune is a hard man to beat.

The Bafana Bafana custodian was on hand to deal with Musonda's 49th minute free kick and then pulled off an outstanding save to stop Richard Henyekane from equalising in the 54th minute.

Vumani Mvundla was then denied by Khune in the 60th minute, before shooting over the bar in the 67th minute. Three minutes later the same player was presented with a great opportunity when Musonda's cross located him just six yards out from goal, but again Khune made a good save to preserve Chiefs' lead.

Chiefs were able to hang onto their lead without much difficulty for the remaining minutes of the game as they sealed the three points which could be invaluable to secure a top eight finish.
