Leopards move up the log

2008-05-10 18:07

Limpompo - Black Leopards move off the bottom of the table thanks to a 0-0 draw against Golden Arrows in their Absa Premiership game on Saturday.

The result means that Lidoda Duvha are one point above Jomo Cosmos, but remain a point behind Thanda Royal Zulu, who have a game in hand.

The game got off to a flying start as both sides came out with all guns blazing and enjoyed numerous chances in the opening 25 minutes.

Desperate to haul themselves out of the relegation zone, Lidoda Duvha looked intent on getting an early goal as David Makagale had a shot blocked in the second minute and then Eric Ramavhale shot wide of the target from outside the box five minutes later.

The home side continued to take the game to the KZN outfit, but were again denied in the eighth minute when Fischer Kondowe's shot was blocked before Christopher Netshidzivhe shot wide from the rebound.

Arrows did manage to conjure up a few chances of their own, but their efforts were mainly confined to long range tempts, which saw Vumani Mvundla twice fail to hit the back of the net, with the same applying to Njabulo Manqanya and Kagiso Dikgacoi.

Abundance

However it was the Limpopo side who continued to enjoy the lion's share of chances as on two separate occasions Mayasisilua Lubanzadio was unable to deliver the end product with a pair of headers from David Makgale's crosses.

Goal opportunities were again in abundance in the opening stages of the second half, yet neither side was able to break the deadlock.

The visitor's chances fell the way of Mvundla and Joseph Musundo, who were both too far out to trouble Efraim Tjihonge in goal for Leopards.

At the other end of the field, Mulondo Sikhwivhilu headed over the bar from close range in the 54th minute and then both Jabu Maluleke and Robert Ngambi went wide with shots from the edge of the area.

Both sides continued to create chances at will for the remainder of the game, but it proved to be a match in which the ball would just not enter the back of the net, leaving the two teams to share the spoils from an entertaining afternoon's football.
