Manchester - Manchester United's Michael Carrick signed a new four-year contract on Saturday.
"I am delighted Michael has signed a new contract," manager Alex Ferguson said. "Michael has been outstanding since joining us from Tottenham Hotspur in 2006 and it?s great to know he will be a part of this squad for many years to come."
Carrick initially struggled to establish himself in the team, but is now an integral part of Ferguson's plans and earned a second Premiership winner's medal last weekend.
"This is a fantastic club and it is a pleasure to be part of this great squad," the 27-year-old Carrick said. "I believe this team will be together for many years to come and to win back-to-back titles in my first two seasons at the club is a dream come true."
The announcement comes days after England defender Rio Ferdinand signed a new five-year contract.
