Madrid - Soccer beat sex as organisers have blamed Spain's success run into the final at Euro 2008 for poor attendance figures at an erotic film festival in Madrid.

"Football is one if the few things against which sex comes up short," news reports on Sunday quoted festival director Juli Simon as saying.

The XVI International Festival of Erotic Cinema ended with a disappointing figure of 15 000 visitors, less one third of the 50 000 people who visited the festival last year in Barcelona.

Not even striptease and live sex shows were able to draw a major crowd on Thursday when Spain beat Russia 3-0 in the Euro semi-finals. Sapa-dpa
