  • Cape Town - Tyren Arendse is happy to be back in Cape Town, a familiar environment, and he says he is loving every minute of it.

"Hey man, things are going pretty well. I've settled down nicely and that's because I've been here before and there are still some guys here from when I was at Santos a few years back. I am just happy to be back home," he said.

However, the main focus for Arendse is to regain his fitness and earn a spot in David Bright's team of promising youngsters who took the People's Team to third in the Absa Premiership last season, and the winger knows it will not be an easy task.

"When I left Santos, they were a well balanced team in terms of youth and experience. You know, the coaches we had back then, Clive Barker, Gordon Igesund and Boebie Solomons, they made it easy for the players. Now, you have to really work to get a place in the team. These youngsters are all very good players.

"I have always had a desire to come back to Santos, and in David Bright, they have a very good and intelligent coach. Now it is up to me to produce the goods."

Arendse also admits that he still harbours hopes of adding to his three Bafana Bafana caps, but knows that there is hard work ahead if he is too realise his dream of donning the national jersey again.

"Look, as things stand for Tyren Arendse at this moment, I am way off playing for Bafana Bafana. My focus is solely on winning a starting place at Santos and playing regularly. I didn't play much over the past two years, so the national coaches have not really seen me play.

"But anything is possible, I just have to work hard and be consistent, and then I am confident I will regain the form I showed when I was last at Santos and hopefully, catch the eye of the national coach as well."
