Essien injured in Ghana defeat

London - Chelsea will assess the fitness of Michael Essien on Monday after the midfielder injured his knee during Ghana's 1-0 loss against Libya in a World Cup qualifier.
"My injury? It is serious but I can be ready again soon," Essien told Sky Sports on Saturday.
Essien had to leave Friday's game after he was tackled midway through the first half and was replaced by Stephen Appiah.
Chelsea's next Premier League game is a trip to Manchester City next Saturday.
