Christchurch - The Crusaders smashed the Cheetahs 55-7 in their Super 14 match played at the AMI Stadium in Christchurch on Saturday.

The Cheetahs' lack of depth was cruelly exposed as the Crusaders consolidated their position at the top of the log by scoring nine tries to one.

The Crusaders reveled in their return to Christchurch and a makeshift Cheetahs side were simply not up to containing their brand of total rugby.

The Crusaders were quickly into their stride as Sean Maitland got their first try in the 10th minute and the bonus point came up in the 26th minute when Leon MacDonald crossed for their fourth try.

The home-side led 33-0 at half-time and all the Cheetahs had to show for a dismal outing was an interception try by Jongi Nokwe.

Scorers:

Crusaders:

Tries: Sean Maitland, Casey Laulala (2), Dan Carter, Leon MacDonald, Scott Hamilton (2), Ti'i Paulo, Caleb Ralph.
Conversions: Carter (5).

Cheetahs:

Try: Jongi Nokwe.
Conversion: Conrad Barnard.
