Latham's Wallaby career over

Brisbane - Fullback Chris Latham has likely played his last Test for Australia after scans on Monday revealed a torn pectoral muscle which will sideline him for three months.

Queensland veteran Latham tore the muscle from the bone in a failed tackle on Crusaders wing Kade Poki on Saturday in a Super 14 match and requires corrective surgery.

He will miss the Reds' final match of the season on Saturday against the Waratahs, leaving him stranded on 99 Super Rugby matches.

The 32-year-old Latham leaves later this year to join English club Worcester on a three-year contract. He said he will not be fit in time to play in any of Australia's Tri-Nations or other Tests before making the move.

Latham has played 73 Tests for Australia, scoring 35 tries and 175 points overall. He played his first Test in Paris against France in 1998.

"To be honest, I'd like to (be considered for selection), but I don't see why they'd bother," Latham said. "I could probably make it back for one Test (but) there's no use for that.

"They (the Wallabies) need to move on and obviously there'll be people playing in between now and then and I really hope they get good form and they stay there and start performing. If that's the case there's not much use wheeling me out again."

Latham said he's moving to Worcester with optimism.

"It's a shame it's over but I've got things to look forward to," he said. "I've got another three years overseas. It's something I'm looking forward to. My rugby's not over."
