New York - South Africa's Rik de Voest and his Australian partner Ashley Fisher defeated the 12th seeds, Uruguay's Pablo Cuevas and Luis Horna of Peru in the second round of their doubles encounter in the US Open being played at Flushing Meadows on Friday.
They won 7-6 (3) 6-2.
Other doubles players who won included 7th seeds Lukas Dlouhy of the Czech Republic and India's Leander Paes , who beat Argentina's Eduardo Schwank and Italy's Potito Starace, Italy.
The 15th seeds Marcelo Melo and Andre Sa of Brazil defeated Austria's Jurgen Melzer and Germany's Rainer Schuettler.
In men's second round matches, 11th seeded Fernando Gonzalez of Chile defeated Bobby Reynolds, US 7-6 (6) 6-4 6-4 and fifth-seeded Nikolay Davydenko of Russia defeated Argentina's Agustin Calleri 6-4 6-4 7-6 (2).
Gilles Muller of Luxembourg beat Germany's Tommy Haas 2-6 2-6 7-6 (5) 6-3 6-3.
In a women's third round match Serbia's Jelena Jankovic (2) defeated Zheng Jie of China 7-5 7-5.
