Sydney - Kids come to school to play together and should not cut themselves off from each other by plugging themselves into a personal stereo, the head of Sydney's International Grammar School (IGS) said on Tuesday.
IGS is thought to be the first Australian school to ban iPods and other personal stereos from the playground.
"They allow students to avoid communication with others and may lead to social isolation or escape from our community," IGS principal Kerry Murphy said.
"It's important for kids to be talking to one another at school, socialising and being part of a community," she told The Sydney Morning Herald.
Murphy said her ban on MP3 players had the support of parents. - Sapa-dpa
