Pietermaritzburg - Computer users will have a Zulu language version of Microsoft Office in a matter of weeks, director of Microsoft South Africa Danny Naidoo said in Durban on Tuesday.
This is part of a R4.5m investment Microsoft is making to the province of KwaZulu-Natal.
Naidoo said they are in the final stages of developing the Zulu software, which is expected to enhance the language and add a cultural dimension to the relationship that exists between the company, the province and the eThekwini Municipality.
The municipality will benefit in three other developments, including the development of LogoSoft, a new financial management software product aimed at assisting municipalities capture and file their data effectively.
The municipality will be the first in the country to have the software.
Mayor, Obed Mlaba, said the partnership will ensure that qualified graduates stay in the city, which is not currently the case.
He added that a recent study has shown that the city is not economically strong enough to cater for the needs of newly qualified graduates, hence the exodus to other provinces and countries.
