Obesity 'hurts your liver'

Sydney - Being overweight may be riskier for your liver than being a boozer, new Australian research shows.
A University of Western Australia study has found that while moderate to heavy alcohol use doubles the risk of having an abnormal liver, obesity increases the risk seven-fold.
Gastroenterologist Leon Adams said his study of more than 2 500 people was a cause for concern because 60% of Australian adults are now either overweight or obese.
"If you are obese, you already have one risk factor for liver disease and if you drink alcohol in moderate to heavy amounts, you're adding fuel to the fire," Dr Adams said. - Sapa-dpa
