Johannesburg - South Africans will be able to view the total solar eclipse in Ghana on Wednesday via the internet, the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) said on Monday.
CSIR experts Paul Basilio and Johan Nothnagel, in collaboration with scientists from the University of Cape Coast Ghana, would capture and stream the eclipse live on the internet website http://africlipse.csir.co.za/ as part of a CSIR knowledge dissemination drive.
Recordings of the phenomenon - made via a telescope with a Sony DV camera and two additional webcams - would be available on the website for later viewing.
The eclipse will be shown at 11:00 South African time and will last about three minutes.
The eclipse's path across Africa starts at coast of Ghana, and passes through several countries in a north-easterly direction, including Libya.
The CSIR said the only limiting factor in the quality of the broadcast could be Ghana's bandwidth capability.
"The worst-case scenario would be transmission that will be delayed by a few minutes," it said.
