Johannesburg - The world's most-complete pre-human, nicknamed Little Foot, made its first public appearance in more than three million years on Thursday.
A copy of the fossil was unveiled at the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage site west of Johannesburg.
Little Foot was one of our ancestral relatives, said Professor Ron Clarke of the University of Witwatersrand.
"These are our ancestors," said Gauteng Premier Mbhazima Shilowa.
"This is our heritage. It is important to honour them."
The replica was cast during the excavation of Little Foot at Sterkfontein caves.
The skeleton is 3.3 million years old and was discovered in 1997.
