MySpace roped in to find killer
22/12/2006 14:31 - (SA)
Chicago - The family of a Chicago dermatologist killed in his downtown office in October is using the social networking site MySpace.com to try to find his killer.
Dr David Cornbleet, 64, was found stabbed to death in his 12th-floor Michigan Avenue office on October 24. Police believe a young man shown on a building surveillance video is responsible.
A friend of the Cornbleet family has set up a MySpace profile about the murder that features images of the suspect from the surveillance tapes, news stories about the murder and details about a $25&nbp;000 reward for information.
Family members say they hope the profile will attract the attention of young people who may not get their news from traditional sources such as newspapers and TV.
"The whole idea is to create enough buzz and awareness about this, that maybe it gets to someone who knows someone else who knows something, and they might step up," said Dan Drucker, the boyfriend of Cornbleet's daughter.
Jon Cornbleet, the doctor's son, said the MySpace profile unveiled on Thursday has already received thousands of hits.
The security video doesn't show a clear image of the suspect's face but shows him entering the building and leaving about an hour later.
Police believe the man had blood on his clothing when he left the building.
Chicago police spokeswoman Monique Bond said the department is supporting the family's efforts and have provided video footage.
