Microsoft ups Xbox 360 warranty
23/12/2006 14:28 - (SA)
San Francisco - Microsoft announced on Friday that it was extending the warranty on Xbox 360 from 90 days to a year in the United States and Canada to entice buyers in the hot video game console market.
The longer warranty period went into effect immediately and was on par with that commonly offered by the Redmond, Washington, technology giant in other parts of the world.
According to Microsoft, the extension would apply to new buyers and people who already owned Xbox 360 consoles, which debuted in late 2005.
Video game consoles had topped holiday season gift lists, with shoppers quickly clearing store shelves of newly launched Sony PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii systems.
While supplies of Sony and Nintendo systems were outstripped by demand, Xbox systems were plentiful in US stores.
