YouTube removes SA paper's clip

Johannesburg - A doctored video interview with Sunday Times editor Mondli Makhanya has been removed from YouTube, following complaints from the daily newspaper The Times.

A web user named ANCBC, apparently downloaded an interview with Makhanya from The Times website, added "objectionable" material, and posted it on video-sharing site YouTube.

In the original video clip Makhanya explains why news reports had been published about alleged theft and alcohol abuse by Health Minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang.

The edited version of the video begins with a shot of three barking baboons and images of monkeys, a play on the phrase "hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil".

Images of Tshabalala-Msimang and Zuma follow, while the barking continues.

Zapiro cartoons of Tshabalala-Msimang are also featured.

Gregor Rohrig, deputy multimedia editor of The Times, told Beeld on Wednesday that an e-mail had been sent to YouTube to remove the video.

He said the clip is an infringement of the newspaper's copyright.

Rohrig said on Thursday that YouTube had agreed to remove the video.
