05/09/2007 16:54 - (SA)
London - British authorities ruled on Wednesday that research using animal eggs to create human stem-cells could go forward in principle.
The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority decided to accept such research, which involves placing human DNA into cow or rabbit eggs that have had their genetic material removed.
According to the ruling, projects would be decided on a case-by-case basis, said Paula Woodward, a spokesperson for the regulator.
