05/11/2007 13:45 - (SA)
Bangalore - Reliance Communications Ltd and Microsoft Corp on Monday said they would tie-up to offer R-Com's internet protocol television, or IPTV, services in India on the US company's software platform.
R-Com will pay Microsoft about $500m in licence fees for the use of the latter's software, said an official at the Indian company, who declined to be named.
The service will be launched by the close of the current fiscal year ending March 31 2008, said a joint news release by the two companies.
"Backed by powerful Microsoft Mediaroom software, IPTV promises to offer our subscribers more choice, control and convenience, and at the end of the day, a unique and more satisfying user experience," said Anil D Ambani, chairperson of R-Com.
