Fresh sushi - guaranteed
17/01/2008 12:13 - (SA)
Singapore - A system has been developed in Singapore using radio signals to track the freshness of sushi on a conveyor belt, Ngee Ann Polytechnic said on Wednesday.
If the sushi has been out longer then its pre-set time encoded in a microchip under the plate, it will slide it away from the belt and into the trash.
Lim Jing Kun and Phan Kok Peng, in the department of electrical engineering, said their own suspicions over the freshness of their favourite dishes at sushi bars triggered their interest in developing the system.
The Sakae Sushi restaurant chain plans a trial run in the next two months.
"We were about to start research on something like this," said Douglas Foo, chief executive officer of the firm that runs the chain. - Sapa-dpa
