iBurst named World Finalist
01/10/2008 10:31  - (SA)

Cape Town - South African broadband operator iBurst is hoping to add to the recent national accolade count after being named a finalist in the 2008 World Communication Awards to be held at the London Hilton on 26 November 2008.

Nominated for Best Operator in a Developing Country, iBurst is the only South African operator to be shortlisted for this category in the most widely-recognised and influential awards for the global telecommunications sector.

iBurst is up against Roshan Telecom Development Company (Afghanistan), Safaricom Ltd (Kenya) and Viettel Corporation (Vietnam).

"We are thrilled that a young local operator like iBurst has featured on the world telecoms stage alongside megabrands like Cable & Wireless, Qualcomm and Orange," said Thami Mtshali, CEO of iBurst.

The 10th annual World Communication Awards recognise the companies and individuals responsible for the innovations, achievements and great new services that are helping to build tomorrow's industry.

The awards are open to traditional carriers, service providers, multimedia content providers and any other organisation providing a communication service.

Over 600 influencers and decision-makers, CEOs and senior executives will gather in London for a spectacular evening ceremony and gala dinner to witness key industry players being awarded for their contribution to the industry during the preceding year.

The other categories of the World Communications Awards are Best Brand, Best Content Service, Best Customer Care, Best Managed Service, Best Mobile Operator, Best New Service, Best Project Management, Best Technology Foresight, Best Wholesale Carrier, Best Global Operator, Best International Carrier, The Green Award and Best Change Maker.
