Paris - Tests showed that a 43-year-old man at first thought to have possibly been infected with the deadly H5N1 bird flu virus is in fact suffering from another type of flu, French authorities said on Thursday.

The man hospitalised on France's Indian Ocean island of Reunion is "not a carrier of the H5N1 virus", the health ministry said in a statement.

Test results are expected on Friday for two other people suspected of having possibly contracted H5N1 bird flu on the same visit to Thailand, the ministry added.
