100 - 500 tons of chemical arms agents

New York - The United States estimates that Iraq has 100 to 500 tons of chemical weapons agents, US Secretary of State Colin Powell told the UN security council on Wednesday.
In what he called a conservative estimate, Powell said that amount could fill about 16 000 battlefield rockets.
Powell said of the dozen empty chemical warheads found by UN weapons inspectors recently: "this discovery could very well be ... the tip of a submerged iceberg."
He said Iraqi President Saddam Hussein recently authorised officers to use chemical agents if needed.
