Iraq accused of terrorist links
05/02/2003 18:54 - (SA)
New York - US Secretary of State Colin Powell on Wednesday accused Iraq of harbouring a variety of terrorists including at least one senior member of Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda network.
Powell, speaking to a special meeting of the UN security council, said Iraq had given safe harbour to Abu Mussab al-Zarqawi, who is accused of ordering the murder of a US diplomat in Jordan last year.
But Powell said the links went beyond Zarqawi, displaying a satellite photo of what he said was a terrorist training camp in northern Iraq where the use of chemical weapons was taught.
"It's a nexus that combines classic terrorist organisations and modern weapons of murder," he said. - Sapa-AFP
