As-Saliyah, Qatar - US-led forces were on Sunday holding the former head of Iraq's body that liaised with UN weapons inspectors, a man who features on a list of 55 wanted Iraqis, the US Central Command (Centcom) announced.
General Hossam Mohammad Amin is number 49 among the most wanted Iraqis and the six of clubs in the House of Cards distributed to US commanders to help them identify former associates of the now ousted president Saddam Hussein.
Centcom said Amin, "the National Monitoring Director, is now under coalition control," but gave no further details.
Amin held a powerful role in the media limelight and frequently gave press conferences alongside ex-presidential scientific advisor Amer al-Saadi who surrendered to US forces earlier this month.
Centcom did not say whether Amin was tracked down or whether he surrendered to coalition forces and did not reveal where he was held.
US troops now hold 13 of the most wanted Iraqis, who US officials hope will help establish the whereabouts of Saddam and the weapons of mass destruction he is accused of stockpiling.
The most notorious official held by the coalition is former deputy prime minister Tareq Aziz, who surrendered on Thursday.
