Baghdad - Several Iraqis were killed in an explosion at an ammunition dump over the weekend in Haditha, northwest of Baghdad, a US military official told AFP on Monday.

"There was an explosion and then a fire at an ammunition dump in the town of Haditha," 260km northwest of Baghdad, the official said.

"There were several casualties," he said, without elaborating.

US Sergeant First Class Patrick Compton, meanwhile, told AFP that the casualties were all Iraqis.

"There are no US casualties," he said. - Sapa-AFP
