Troops in Iraq cost $4bn/month

Washington - The occupation of Iraq will cost US taxpayers about $77.3bn for the balance of the current year, White House budget director Joshua Bolten told a Senate panel on Tuesday.
In testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations committee, Bolten said US officials had little reason to anticipate a reduction in the roughly $4bn a month currently being spent to maintain US troops in Iraq.
"We don't have any reason to expect any dramatic change" in the short run, Bolten said.
Deputy Defence Secretary Paul Wolfowitz also testified at Tuesday's hearing on the progress of post-war reconstruction in Iraq. - Sapa-AFP
