Saddam 'back' with new tape

Dubai - Qatar's Al-Jazeera satellite TV aired what it said on Friday was a new message to the Iraqi people from ousted president Saddam Hussein, recorded five days ago.
In the audiotape, the speaker purported to be Saddam called on Iraqis to safeguard the properties of the state and his toppled Ba'ath Party until "things return to normal".
The voice also spoke of the need to "salvage" even those who "betrayed the nation" by collaborating with the United States occupiers.
The speaker, who also called for resistance to the US occupation, gave July 27 as the date of the recording.
The new tape is the sixth attributed to Saddam by Arab satellite TV stations since his ousting by US-led forces on April 9.
It comes just three days after Dubai-based Al-Arabiya news channel broadcast a tape in which a speaker said to be Saddam mourned his sons, Uday and Qusay, killed by US forces on July 22.
US intelligence has deemed previous tapes to be probably authentic at a time when the former strongman continues to elude US forces who have stepped up raids across Iraq in an attempt to capture him.
