Cairo - A huge explosion was heard on Tuesday in the vicinity of a police station in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, the Qatar-based al-Jazeera television channel reported.

Initial reports suggested that a vehicle laden with explosives drove up to the al-Rasafa police station and detonated at a parking lot outside the building.

Up to ten people have been injured in the blast.

United States forces and Iraqi police in the area rushed to the scene and sealed off roads leading to station. - Sapa-DPA
