Saddam would prefer suicide
09/11/2003 20:41 - (SA)
Paris - A man who worked as Saddam Hussein's interpreter for 15 years said he believes the ousted Iraqi leader would rather kill himself than be captured.
In an interview broadcast on French radio on Sunday, Saman Abdul Majid said he has not been in contact with the former leader since February, about a month before the war started.
If Saddam is still alive, "he can only be in Iraq," Majid said.
"He's a person who can't live outside his borders, outside his environment."
Majid, who has written a book called "The Saddam Years," said he was convinced Saddam would prefer suicide to capture.
"I think he would put a bullet in his head before letting any American lay a hand on him," Majid said.
