Pilgrims hurt in firefight

Mahmudiya - Assailants fired rocket-propelled grenades south of Baghdad on US troops who returned fire, killing two insurgents and wounding several Shiite pilgrims who were trekking to the holy Shiite of Karbala, a resident said.
"Assailants fired RPGs on the convoy and US soldiers riposted, killing two assailants and wounding Shiite pilgrims heading to Karbala," he said.
The US military said it had no information on the attack.
The pilgrims were walking to the holy Shiite city of Karbala to take part in a religious ceremony marking the 40th day after the Ashura, which marks the death of imam Hussein in 680.
