CIA: Zarqawi beheaded Berg

Washington - The United States intelligence community on Thursday said an American civilian whose beheading was posted on the internet probably was killed by the hand of the most-wanted terrorist in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.
Nicholas Berg, an American who went to Iraq looking for work repairing radio towers, was abducted in early April, and his remains were found on Saturday in the Baghdad area.
A poor-quality video clip posted on Tuesday on a website linked to Islamic militants showed him being beheaded by a masked person identified in the tape as Zarqawi.
The Central Intelligence Agency said on Thursday that a technical analysis has been made of the voice of the attacker in the video.
The agency "assesses with high probability" that the speaker was Zarqawi, whose network has been blamed by the US-led coalition for numerous attacks and bombings against foreign military and civilian targets, as well as Iraqis.
Zarqawi, a Jordanian fugitive, is also accused of bankrolling a major bombing plot against government targets in Amman, which officials in Jordan say they uncovered last month.
His network in Jordan and Iraq is believed to be affiliated with Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda terrorist organisation. - Sapa-dpa
