Baghdad - Iraqi national guardsmen have found a workshop used to manufacture explosives and chemical substances in the former rebel-held city of Fallujah, national security chief Kassem Daoud said on Thursday.
"In a house in the industrial district, in southwest Fallujah, national guards discovered a chemical materials laboratory that was used to make explosives and toxic substances," he told a Baghdad news conference.
"There were also pamphlets showing ways to make explosives, toxic substances, including anthrax," he said.
Sky News reports that on Wednesday, marines in Fallujah reported finding a banner of the group led by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in a chemicals lab.
But they said there was no indication the laboratory had been used to produce chemical weapons.
It was not clear whether Daoud was referring to the same laboratory or another one.
US forces said on Thursday they were not aware of any more labs having been discovered.
They also doubted whether evidence had been found of the production of chemical weapons.
