No election delay - Iraqi govt
27/11/2004 15:40 - (SA)
Baghdad - The interim Iraqi government is determined to hold elections as scheduled, its spokesperson said on Saturday, after leading political parties demanded the January 30 polls be postponed by six months.
"The government is determined to hold elections at the scheduled date and is working with the various political forces to that purpose," government spokesperson Thaer al-Naqib told reporters.
"Inshallah, these elections will be held as planned," he said.
The Iraqi electoral commission on Saturday said it ruled out delaying the polls after examining a request by leading political parties for the landmark elections to be postponed for security reasons.
