Blair: 'No regrets' about Iraq
14/12/2005 17:45 - (SA)
London - Prime Minister Tony Blair said on Wednesday he had no regrets about supporting the invasion of Iraq, suggesting that this week's elections vindicate the overthrow of Saddam Hussein.
Peter Tapsell of the opposition Conservative Party asked Blair at prime ministers' question why he had not gone to the United States to receive an award for his support of the war.
"I do not in any shape or form regret having supported the action that we took," Blair said.
"And I think today and this week is particularly good time to remind ourselves that this week there will be the first-ever democratic election in Iraq where the people for the first time ever will be able to choose their government, and that is something I am very proud of, along with our alliance with the United States."
