  • Baghdad - Iraq's defence ministry has ordered the deployment of Iraqi tanks in Baghdad following unprecedented sectarian strife last week, an Iraqi general said on Monday.

The government, which decided the measure on Sunday, also ordered soldiers to arrest anyone illegally carrying weapons, General Abdel Aziz Mohammed, chief of operations at the ministry, told a news conference.

It was not immediately known in what part of the capital the tanks were being deployed or if their deployment had begun.
