Washington - Secretary of state Condoleezza Rice said on Sunday it was "entirely probable" the United States would make a "significant" drawdown of US troops in Iraq within a year.

Speaking on NBC television's Meet the Press programme, Rice said Iraqi troops were making progress in taking over from US forces in Iraq three years after the US invasion to oust Saddam Hussein.

"I think it's entirely probable that we will see a significant drawdown of American forces over the next year," she said.
