Bin Laden names new Iraq chief

Paris - Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden has endorsed the appointment of Abu Hamza al-Muhajer as the network's chief in Iraq.
According to an audiotape, posted on the internet on Saturday, bin Laden has appointed Muhajer to succeed slain Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, who was killed in a United States raid in Iraq in June.
On the audiotape, bin Laden urged Muhajer to "fight the Americans and their allies".
The authenticity of the audiotape was not verified.
