  • Lungi, Sierra Leone - Prime Minister Tony Blair on Wednesday said Britain should never yield to acts of terrorism and abductions following the kidnapping of five Britons in Iraq a day earlier.

"We know the dangers and challenges there, but we should never let those who are prepared to use kidnapping and terrorism to succeed," said Blair in response to a question at a news conference during a visit to Sierra Leone.

Armed men wearing police uniforms abducted the Britons - a consultant and his four armed guards - on Tuesday morning from a finance ministry building near a Shi'ite area of the Iraqi capital.

Blair, who steps down June 27, on Tuesday told reporters in the Libyan coastal town of Sirte, where he held talks with leader Muammar Gaddafi, that Britain would do "everything we possibly can to help".
