London - The woman behind the mask who became the gripping image of the London bombings is laughing, joking and "doing really well," said her sister on Monday.
Davinia Turrell, 24, a trainee tax lawyer, was photographed clutching a white surgical burns mask to her face as she stumbled from the carnage near Edgware Road subway station, scene of one of Thursday's four blasts.
Speaking publicly for the first time, her sister, Louise Wells, said: "She is doing great. She is doing really well. Every day, there is an improvement.
"She has started to laugh and joke again. She is a very kind person, caring and constantly worried about other people. "She is more worried about the other people in the accident than herself."
Wells, speaking at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in west London, said Turrell had had burns to the left side of her face - some of which were superficial and some more serious.
Praised quick-thinking firefighter
"She has had only one operation, on the Friday evening when she came here. Ever since then, she has been making a dramatic improvement."
Wells praised the quick-thinking of former firefighter Paul Dadge, 28, who was shown helping Turrell to safety after spotting her standing alone on a street corner.
"Some time in the future, Davinia would like to see him," she said.
"At the moment, she is still very nervous, but she would like to meet him one day."
