London blasts toll up
14/07/2005 19:48 - (SA)
London - The confirmed number of people killed in last week's London bombings rose on Thursday to 53, the Metropolitan police said, revising its previous figure of 52 given two days earlier.
About 700 people were injured, including 48 who were still in hospitals around the British capital on Thursday, Britain's domestic Press Association news agency reported.
Metropolitan police commissioner Sir Ian Blair, at a luncheon with foreign journalists, said eight people were in critical condition. He also warned that the death toll was likely to rise.
Eleven of the dead have so far been officially named by police.
