London - The mother of a suspected suicide bomber said on Friday she was struggling to come to terms with the fact that her "dream child" stands accused of participation in the London terrorist bloodbath of July 7.
Maryam McCleod Ismaiyl refuses to believe that her son is dead because she has not yet identified the body of Lindsey Germail, 19.
However, she does mourn the deaths of the victims of the first suicide bomb attacks in Western Europe.
Ismaiyl, who originally comes from Jamaica, said: "I do not know if it is my son.
"Neither myself, nor his wife, Mrs Samantha Lewthwaite, have been able to go and identify his body."
Identified
Germail, who was also known as Lindsey Germaine and Lindsay Jamal, was identified the police as the bomb planter at the King's Cross station.
He lived in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, and police say he killed himself and 26 other people.
According to The Times, Ismaiyl said: "I bemoan the death of the victims, for those who have died and those who live.
"I cry for the mothers and fathers and for those who are now traumatised, thinking of death and the horror of it all."
She described the Islam religion ("which I love most dearly and practised with Jamal") as "peace and righteousness".
It is believed that Germail came into contact with extremists about four years ago, shortly after his conversion.
Proof
Although Ismaiyl did not refute the fact that her son had been in Pakistan earlier to undergo "religious training", she said: "I need proof before I will believe that my baby would hurt anybody, never mind murder or injuries or trauma."
Apart from his parents, Ismaiyl and Mr Kenny John, Germail also leaves two sisters, his wife, and a baby, Abdullah.
He was a friend of three other "gentle men" who were also suspected as bomb planters.
They are Shehzad Tanweer, 22, Mohammad Sidique Khan, 30, and Hasib Mir Hussain, 18.
