London - Police experts were examining suspicious material found on Tuesday in a north London apartment that has been connected to two of the four men suspected of planting bombs on London's transit system, said police.
Investigators also have seized a car in connection with the investigation, said police.
Explosives experts were trying to identify the material before removing it from suspect Yasin Hassan Omar's flat, which also had been visited recently by suspect Muktar Said Ibrahim.
Said, 27, and Omar, 24, were identified on Monday as two suspects in the failed July 21 attacks on three subway trains and a bus.
Peter Clarke, head of the Metropolitan Police anti-terrorist squad, said Said "was associated with, and had recently visited" the flat.
Car has been impounded
A spokesperson for the London borough, the Enfield Council, said on Tuesday that Omar had been the registered tenant in the flat since 1999, receiving ½75 (about R880) a week in government housing benefits until May.
Meanwhile, a police spokesperson said a car was impounded near the north London flat.
"We have seized a car... in connection with the investigation into the incidents of July 21, but we're not prepared to discuss it further," she said on customary condition of anonymity.
Television showed pictures of a white Volkswagen Golf being taken by police.
