'Bomber': Mistaken identity
16/08/2005 16:26 - (SA)
Accra - A man arrested by British authorities over unexploded bombs planted on July 21 in London has been proven not to be the son of Ghana's deputy inspector-general of police, Dr KK Manfo, said the ministry of foreign affairs on Monday in Accra.
A government statement said that the Ghana high commissioner, Kwaku Asiedu Manfo, had traced KK Manfo's son to a hostel in London. It said reports that Kweku Manfo had been a jailed suspect had resulted from a case of stolen identity.
Ivor Agyeman Duah, for the Ghana High Commission in London, said officials had traced Kweku Asiedu Manfo, 32, to a hostel in London.
He said that they had not had access to the jailed suspect to determine whether he was Ghanaian or even African.
The elder Manfo had questioned reports that the man who had been arrested was his son. He said although he had a son by that name, he was a mental patient and could not have been involved in the crime.
