  • Islamabad - The remains of one of the apparent suicide bombers responsible for the July 7 attacks in London were buried on Thursday in his ancestral town in central Pakistan, said interior minister Aftab Sherpao.

Sherpao said: "The remains of Shahzad Tanweer were brought from London late on Wednesday and buried in Samundari today."

He said the remains were brought for burial in Pakistan's Punjab province by Tanweer's parents, who lived in London.

Tanweer, 22, Mohammed Sidique Khan, 30, and Hasib Hussain, 18, - all British Muslims of Pakistani origin - allegedly carried out the attacks in London with one other man, killing 52 people on three subway trains and a bus.

Pakistan came under international scrutiny after it emerged that at least two of the suicide bombers had visited the country before the attacks and one might have visited a madrassa, or Islamic religious school.

Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf ordered a crackdown on extremists and more than 800 militant suspects were arrested in sweeping raids after the London bombings.

He also ordered some 1 400 foreign madrassa students to leave Pakistan, sparking widespread anger across the country.
