  • Beirut - The UN team negotiating a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah said on Monday that it had achieved "some promising first efforts" to end hostilities.

Vijay Nambiar, special political adviser to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, told reporters that there had been "some promising first efforts on the way forward".

AP earlier reported that Nambair said he'd present Israel "concrete ideas" after his talks with Lebanon's prime minister.

But, he warned, "much diplomatic work needs to be done" before a resolution was reached.
