Tyre - At least 45 civilians were killed in a series of deadly Israeli morning raids on Lebanon on Wednesday that flattened homes in the south and east of the country, police said.
Twenty-one Lebanese civilians were killed and 30 others wounded in raids on the village of Srifa near the southern port city of Tyre, where 10 houses were destroyed, police said.
Residents had earlier reported that dozens of people were feared dead under the rubble.
"Fighter-bombers and helicopters carried out a series of raids lasting two hours between 01:00 and 03:00 on the same sector in the centre of the village, part of which was completely destroyed," one resident told AFP by phone.
Israeli gunboats also took part in the attack on the village, which is about 30km northeast of Tyre, he added.
"At least 10 houses were destroyed," he said.
On Tuesday, 37 people, including 11 Lebanese army soldiers and a Hezbollah combatant, were killed in Israeli raids.
A total of 299 people, mostly civilians, have been killed and hundreds injured since the start of Israel's offensive on the country last Wednesday.
