  • Kiryat Shmona - Police say Hezbollah has fired nearly 4 000 rockets into Israel since the Lebanon crisis erupted on July 12, killing 41 civilians and 12 soldiers.

In the latest attacks an Israeli man was killed on Sunday when Hezbollah militiamen fired a barrage of rockets against the north of the country, medical and police sources said.

"A 70-year-old man was killed and another was moderately wounded in the rocket attack," a spokesperson for the Magen David Adom rescue services said.

Police said Hezbollah had fired more than 180 rockets at northern Israel by late afternoon on Sunday, as Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's cabinet voted to approve a UN ceasefire resolution to end the month-long war.

Two people were seriously wounded during a rocket attack on the third-largest city of Haifa late in the afternoon, rescue services said.

A total of nine people were wounded, three of them seriously, in the other rocket attacks, medics reported.
