  • Beirut - The Israeli offensive against Lebanon has left at least 1 287 people, nearly all civilians, dead and 4 054 wounded, according to an AFP count based on official figures on Saturday.

    At least 1 140 civilians - 30% of them children under the age of 12 - have been killed.

    The AFP count also puts the dead at 43 Lebanese army and police troops.

    The month-long offensive ended with a United Nations backed truce on Monday.

    The Lebanese state High Relief Committee tolls do not count people still believed to be under the rubble in various bombed locations across the country.

    The Lebanese Shi'ite group Hezbollah says 74 of its combatants have died in action. The allied Amal movement has lost 17 fighters.

    The pro-Syrian Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command of Ahmad Jibril said two of its fighters were killed in Israeli raids.

    Israeli strikes also killed four UN observers and a member of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon.

    Six people have been killed and 13 others wounded from the exploding of Israeli bomblets since the cessation of hostilities.
