Cluster bombs kill soldiers
23/08/2006 16:16 - (SA)
Beirut - Three Lebanese soldiers were
killed on Wednesday as they tried to clear unexploded Israeli
shells in southern Lebanon, a senior security official said.
They were the first deaths suffered by the Lebanese army
since it began deploying in the south on August 17 after a
UN-brokered truce halted a 34-day war between Israel and the
guerrilla group Hezbollah, the official said.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Israeli army said an Israeli
soldier was killed and three others were wounded when they
stepped on Israeli landmines in southern Lebanon.
Israel says it is waiting for the full deployment of the
Lebanese army in the south and the arrival of an expanded UN
force before it will withdraw its forces fully from the area.
